Adding Things Up

Was about to admit that no progress has been made on the WIP this week because of all the grading I’ve been doing, but then I decided to finish typing the notebook pages and see what I had. I’ve been working on this book since November 20, 2008. Over five months. And I have 225 pages. That is not even two pages a day!!

But at the beginning of this I said I was going to take my time and do a lot of revising along the way, and I’ve done that. So that’s fine. Except the other thing is, it’s been just about that long since I sent the Gypsy manuscript to my agent. And I haven’t heard from her for awhile, so I’m thinking there’s no good news.

I’m going to check in with her myself, but I have a feeling she’s going to tell me that I need more pages. She has different page counts for different publishers that she likes to adhere to and she sort of already warned me that I might need more. Which would mean I’d have to stop working on this book and do that–which is why I am waiting until I’m finished with a draft. Which is making me want to hurry up so I can find out what’s happening and if the answer is (as I suspect) nothing than I can do something to get things moving again.

  1. It sounds like it would be worth checking in with her. I mean it’s good to know what you need to do to make it work, whether you do it now or put it off for a while. Knowledge is power. (Or something.)
