NaNo Prep

Because I got my trunk book done early, I’m ready to write something new. Well, it’s sort of new. Another trunk book, but this one I’m just pretty much throwing out. I kept the town the story is set in. I kept the main characters. But I’m changing the protagonist’s backstory and many details of the plot.

I’m not even going to bother trolling for salvagable pages. Just the thought of doing that made me tired and depressed. Instead, I’m just going to open my computer on November 1 and write 8 pages. I might make an outline tomorrow…or not. I do have the first scene finished, but it’s only 7 pages and I’m not going to count it in the 50,000.

I can’t believe I’m actually doing this again, but really, it’s the perfect time. Then I’ll have the winter to revise.

  1. “It’s the greatest high in the world to finish a book, and I say this from vast experience of every sort of high you can imagine. Former experience, it must be noted. Chemically induced altered states of consciousness and writing do not go well together, as I learned way too late.”

Let me just say… this is too damn funny. It’s like a little bit of Purdue has sprouted up in your personality for me to see… *lmao* I am not alone.

  2. I’m a little apprehensive about NaNoWriMo. Although I keep telling myself that it doesn’t matter if I write the worst book ever conceived of, as long as I write each day and reach the wordcount. That’s all I’m hoping to get out of this process – that wordcount. I’ve never written anything of that length before, so this is just about convincing myself it’s even possible for me.
