Cleaning up the mess in the middle

Yesterday I spent six hours cleaning up the mess in the middle of my WIP. Among ideas and scenes deleted: someone moves to another town, someone goes shopping, someone goes on a date. All of these scenes would have been fine if they’d moved the plot forward. But they didn’t so they had to go. In the process I lost several thousand words and changed the order of events around, but now I have a sleek, fast-paced story that was totally worth it.

  1. Half the fun is in the revision. I never used to think that, but now I do. It’s a skill I love developing–where to cut to make this better? What to add?
